O'Driscoll sees chance to end All Black jinx
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Brian O'Driscoll has possibly his last chance to lead Ireland to a win over New Zealand when the teams meet in a one-off Test at New Plymouth tomorrow.
O'Driscoll, at 31 and after 107 Tests, is nearing the end of his career and has faced the All Blacks eight times without being able to end Ireland's winless record which stretches over 22 Tests and 105 years. He hopes tomorrow's match, against an All Blacks team weakened by the loss of key players, might offer the best chance to alter his personal and Ireland's national record. "It hasn't happened but it's going to happen before the world implodes. Let's hope it's sooner rather than later," O'Driscoll said. "You have to finish strong. That's where we've struggled. Any time we've pushed them close, they won that last 20 minutes."
Scotland have made two changes from the team that ended the Six Nations on a high with victory over Ireland for tomorrow's first Test against Argentina in Tucuman. Rory Lawson replaces the injured Chris Cusiter at No 9 and Moray Low comes in at tight-head for the recuperating Euan Murray.
