From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Bath player is the competition's leading try-scorer after touching down five times in the wins over USA and Ireland A. He finished as the second-highest try-scorer in the Premiership last season.
"Just being a part of this squad has been awesome," Banahan said. "When I came out here I was just hoping to be involved. But now we're in the final, nothing less than a win will be good enough. I just want to do whatever I can to help the team get that all-important win."
The Saxons have made four changes as they look to secure a second successive Churchill Cup title. The Harlequins flanker Will Skinner returns as captain, London Irish's Steffon Armitage making way, and another Quin, the blind-side flanker Chris Robshaw, also starts. Gloucester's Jack Forster is at tight-head prop following David Wilson's call-up to the senior squad in New Zealand and Jordan Crane is at No 8. Tom French and Stuart Hooper are added to the bench; a rib injury keeps Tom Guest in the stands.
Scotland A have made five changes to the side which beat Argentina A. The Glasgow scrum-half Colin Gregor will partner Saracens' Gordon Ross at half-back and Edinburgh's Mark Robertson and Roland Reid return on the wings. The Glasgow flanker James Eddie is restored to the starting line-up.
The 20-year-old Bristol winger Tom Arscott, who missed out on a Saxons call-up thanks to an ankle injury, has signed a new three-year contract with the club.
