Your support makes all the difference.Great Britain women begin their campaign at the Tokyo Olympics against Chile with the Games underway in both the football and softball before Friday’s opening ceremony.
The women’s football competition gets under way with Great Britain taking on Chile in Sapporo at 8.30am BST (4.30pm in Japan). Kicking off in Tokyo at 9.30am BST will be the highly anticipated meeting between Sweden, who won silver in Rio losing to Germany in the final, and the reigning world champions USA.
The Games remains on course although the head of the organising committee Toshiro Muto refused to completely rule out a last-minute cancellation amid ongoing concern surrounding Covid-19. “At this point, the coronavirus cases may rise or fall, so we will think about what we should do when the situation arises.”

56 min: Space is opening up as USA pile forward in search of a route back into the game. Crystal Dunn sees a shot from range dribble out for a goal kick before Sweden look to counter attack at the other end.

68 min: Better from USA. Dunn and Rapinoe link up on the left, with the full-back slipping in a pass to Rapinoe on the byline. The forward looks up before trying to squeeze in a shot past Hedvig Lindahl at her near post, but the goalkeeper makes the save.

70 min: USA hit the post! Rapinoe latches onto a ball over the top before skipping past a couple of challenges and setting up Christian Press, who can only direct the shot onto the post. Big chance for the USA.

78 min: Rapinoe’s introduction seemed to spark the USA into a bit of life for a while but Sweden’s third goal has taken the wind out of their sails. The world champions are struggling to build the ball out from the back or put any attacking moves together.

85 min: Sweden’s defence is standing up to everything the USA are throwing at them. Glas gets back well to shepherd a Press cross back towards her goalkeeper, before Press then drags a shot wide following a cross into the box from Rapinoe.
Sweden’s midfield of Caroline Seger and Filippa Angeldal are controlling the game.
