Scotland's Catriona Matthew had a blemish-free four-under-par final round of 69 in the Australian Open at Melbourne to win her first tournament for three years. The 27-year-old former British amateur champion from North Berwick won by three strokes from Australia's Karrie Webb.

Laura Davies, the defending champion, mastered one of Japan's toughest courses with a six-under 66 yesterday to finish 17-under-par total and win the Itoen Tournament by a record 15-stroke margin.

South Korea won the Women's World Amateur Team Championship by two shots yesterday to become the first Asian country to win the biennial tournament since it began in 1964. Britain finished in joint fourth place with Spain
