The oldest tournament in golf returns to Carnoustie, one of the most fearsome courses on the rotation, for what promises to be a true test of the golfing elite. The weather won't help either. After a hot summer the Angus course is baked to a crisp giving even the tour's shortest hitters a chance to blast their way around this week. But watch out for those fairway bunkers.
World number one Dustin Johnson, defending champion Jordan Spieth and Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy all hoping to be in contention come the back nine on Sunday. Don't rule out a charge from Tiger Woods either with the course conditions playing into the favour of the 14-time major winner.

Rory McIlroy's putter is going nicely now but his long putt comes to a stop just left of the hole.
Tiger Woods escapes a bunker on six but misses the resulting birdie putt. He'll be disappointed.
The peculiar round continues for Brooks Koepka. Kneeling on the edge of the sand, he undercooks his bunker shot and can only watch as it falls back in.
That is poor. He doesn't get under it and hits the wall.
Finally, he gets out at the third attempt. A double-bogey.
Not his day.
To -2 for Francesco Molinari, who is playing excellent golf at the moment.
Superb from Thorbjorn Olesen. He judges his putt perfectly on 16 from well off the green.
Rory McIlroy less so. He'll have a lengthy par putt.
He makes it! It initially looks like McIlroy may have undercooked it but it just trickles in.
Hideki Matsuyama lines up a lengthy putt for birdie.
Starts it to the right, it stays right and pulls up a foot and a half past. +2
Much closer from Tiger Woods. The ball limps towards the hole but runs out of oomph centimetres shy.
-2 through his first seven holes in his first Open for three years.
"Get in the hole!" holler the crowd on the eighth as Woods strikes his tee shot.
It doesn't.
A fair distance to cover with his birdie putt.
Alex Noren catches the bogey bug. Two in a row, back to level par and still two tough holes to come.
