From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The oldest tournament in golf returns to Carnoustie, one of the most fearsome courses on the rotation, for what promises to be a true test of the golfing elite. The weather won't help either. After a hot summer the Angus course is baked to a crisp giving even the tour's shortest hitters a chance to blast their way around this week. But watch out for those fairway bunkers.
World number one Dustin Johnson, defending champion Jordan Spieth and Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy all hoping to be in contention come the back nine on Sunday. Don't rule out a charge from Tiger Woods either with the course conditions playing into the favour of the 14-time major winner.
We will have all the latest news, scores, updates and more from our man on the course, Ed Malyon, plus analysis from elsewhere right here.

Brooks Koepka's power got him in trouble on the fifth. A double bogey after going through the green with his second.
Ryan Moore birdies the par-three 16th after an excellent tee shot. He's -3.
Alex Noren, off the fringe, hits the lip and stays out. Too much power.
Marc Leishman pushes his putt to the right. Rory McIlroy similarly ends up to the right of the hole. The playing partners are both at one-under par, as is the other group member Thorbjorn Olesen.
Some confusion over whether Justin Thomas' putt on the 11th was for par or birdie, but it was the latter and the 2017 USPGA Champion is therefore within one of leader Kevin Kisner.
Henrik Stenson hasn't found his groove today, but consecutive birdies vault him to one-under after 15 holes.
Not quite for Brooks Koepka. His ball rolls round the edge of the sixth hole and he has to settle for par.
Outstanding putt from Tiger Woods, up over a big rise and onto the green. So nearly in, but he'll tap in for another par. That putter looks good today.
Sam Locke has also finished at +1 in the battle for the Silver Medal.
The 19-year old is mentored by Paul Laurie (winner here after Jean van de Velde's 1999 collapse), working in his golf centre, making coffees in the café and fitting in short game practice when both are available
Rory McIlroy knocks home a short birdie putt on the par-five 14th to move to -2.
Bryson DeChambeau is a quirky golfer, with his irons all of equal length. He takes an age over his putts, but it works on the 6th. An eagle takes DeChambeau to one under par.
