From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The oldest tournament in golf returns to Carnoustie, one of the most fearsome courses on the rotation, for what promises to be a true test of the golfing elite. The weather won't help either. After a hot summer the Angus course is baked to a crisp giving even the tour's shortest hitters a chance to blast their way around this week. But watch out for those fairway bunkers.
World number one Dustin Johnson, defending champion Jordan Spieth and Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy all hoping to be in contention come the back nine on Sunday. Don't rule out a charge from Tiger Woods either with the course conditions playing into the favour of the 14-time major winner.
We will have all the latest news, scores, updates and more from our man on the course, Ed Malyon, plus analysis from elsewhere right here.

He missed the cut last year and you get the sense he isn't quite comfortable yet with links golf, but Justin Thomas is playing well. He reaches the turn at -3.
Poor miss from Rory McIlroy, with his birdie putt in, then out. No such problems for Marc Leishman from slightly closer in, a needed stroke back after the last two holes.
-2 for the Australian, level par for McIlroy.
Tiger Woods just holds the back of the green at the third. He'll have a tough birdie putt.
The first time we've seen Brooks Koepka on the tee with an iron today. Perfect strike, perfect outcome at the fifth.
Lovely control from Alex Noren, spinning one onto the dance floor. Noren is -1 as he steps onto the green at the 11th hole. He finished in the top-ten in 2017 and could be in good position once again should he finish the round well.
Woods lines up his putt. He is on the fringe at the back of the third green.
It swings to the right a little but ends up nearly a foot to the left of the hole. Another tap-in par.
Hideki Matsuyama rifles an uncomfortable par putt, and it just clings on.
Alex Noren makes his birdie putt. He is at two-under now with three birdies on the day thus far.
Brooks Koepka doesn't know his own strength. Far too much on that wedge and he is quite a way through the back.
Justin Thomas leaves a birdie putt just short. He'll stay at three-under.
Superb from Tiger Woods again. A short iron checks perfectly, hopping to the right towards the pin and leaving just a few feet. Another birdie opportunity.
A spark, maybe, for Rory McIlroy. The Northern Irishman strokes a putt home up the hill.
-1. In touch, and a confidence booster after some troubles with the short stick.
