From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Reading moved into the final of the European Club Championship with a magnificent team performance here yesterday, defeating the Spanish champions, Atletic Terrassa, 4-1. They will today play the host club Amsterdam.

After a tentative start Reading opened the scoring in the 16th minute when Tom Bertram converted their third successive penalty corner. This setback stunned Atletic, the favourites to win the championship, into instantly lifting their game. The equaliser came in the 24th minute as Lucas Cammereri deflected a free-hit into the roof of the net.

Four minutes after the interval Reading were leading 3-1. First their captain, Rob Todd, pounced at a penalty corner to give his side the lead and then Simon Mantell put them further ahead from open play. The Spanish responded with an all-out assault but found Simon Mason in top form, with the help of the international trio of Todd, Bertram and Simon Towns in front of him. The Reading defence drew on all its experience to repel wave after wave of attacks, including seven penalty corners.

Reading finished the game off with eight minutes remaining, when a Bertram free-hit just outside the circle gave Jonty Clarke the opportunity to tap in their fourth goal.

In a physical and bruising game Amsterdam moved into the final with a 5-4 win against Club an der Alster, from Hamburg. The England international Ben Hawes scored three times.

In Den Bosch, in the women's competition, Bowden Hightown were beaten 7-1 by the host club and will play Russelsheimer, the German champions, in the bronze medal match.
