From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. This summer window has of course been dominated by the news that PSG have announced the signing of Neymar from Barcelona in a world record £200m deal.

The Brazilian signs a five-year contract on more than £500,000-a-week after tax to become the world’s most expensive and highest paid player.

But plenty more deals are likely to be completed before the window slams shut.

Real Madrid’s interest in superstar teenager Kylian Mbappe is maintaining Manchester United’s belief that they can still sign Gareth Bale this summer, with the club’s long-standing desire to bring him to Old Trafford receiving a boost this week, although David De Gea may need to be involved.

With Mbappe telling Monaco that he wants to leave the club, Real are growing increasingly confident that they can fend off competition to sign the 18-year-old striker this summer.

That could result in Bale heading for the exit in order to free up funds as well as move to a club where he would be guaranteed regular first-team football, something that may not be the case if Mbappe arrives at the Bernabeu before the end of the transfer window.

Chelsea striker Diego Costa will hand in a formal transfer request after it was revealed there is no way back for him with the Premier League champions, and that he will only move to former club Atletico Madrid.

Chelsea have unequivocally been told there is “no chance” they will sign Alex Sandro from Juventus this summer by Massimiliano Allegri.

Antonio Conte has been trying to strengthen his squad all summer as the Blues add the extra demands of Champions League football and they were linked with a £60m move earlier in the window, which was rejected by the Serie A champions.

Speaking after the 2-0 defeat to Tottenham on Saturday at Wembley, Allegri said: “Alex Sandro is a Juventus player and he will stay one.”

When further pressed on the transfer, the Italian added: “No chance.”

Ipswich have signed striker Martyn Waghorn from Rangers for an undisclosed fee.

Waghorn, 27, who has put pen to paper on a two-year deal, follows former Rangers team-mate Joe Garner to Portman Road.

"Mick McCarthy adds firepower to his striking options with the signing of Martyn Waghorn from Rangers, paying a substantial fee to land the forward," Ipswich said on their official website.

"The former Leicester man has passed a medical and penned his contract and will be hoping to make his debut for the Blues in the Carabao Cup away to Luton (on Tuesday)."

Manchester United defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah is set to join Crystal Palace on a season-long loan.

The 19-year-old Dutch defender, signed from Ajax in 2014, made his first-team breakthrough under Louis van Gaal and last season played 11 times under Jose Mourinho.

However, Fosu-Mensah made just four starts during the 2016/17 season and now looks set to complete a loan move to Frank de Boer's Palace.

Compatriot Jairo Riedewald, another former Ajax player, has already arrived at Selhurst Park this summer to bolster a defence that no longer has Mamadou Sakho to call upon.

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has hit out at how Neymar pushed for his move to Paris Saint-Germain, claiming it “wasn’t befitting” of a player at the club.

“Neymar has formed part of our club, but he is now history. It's his decision, despite the fact we did everything in our power for him to stay.

“We always acted responsibly and while we do not share his decision, we do respect it – although that's not to say we don't defend our own interests. Everything has its limit and no player is above Barca. [Neymar's] way of doing things was not the best. It wasn't befitting a Barcelona player.”

Celtic assistant manager Chris Davies has revealed there is "constant dialogue" about the possibility of Patrick Roberts returning to Parkhead.

"They have been talking and the situation is always open to a certain extent because the transfer window is still open," Davies said.

"Patrick is someone we really enjoyed working with and there is obviously always going to be home here for Patrick if that suits everybody.

"The exact situation for Pat and Man City will be between him and the club at the moment.

"All I know is we value and rate the player and I am sure that if is right for everybody then something will be done, but we can't really control that at the moment."

Simon Grayson has warned Lamine Kone and Wahbi Khazri to "do the right things" if they are to earn moves away from relegated Sunderland.

Asked about the pair, Grayson said they had shown "fantastic attitude", but added: "If anybody who has wanted to leave the club wasn't doing the work the other lads were doing, then I would come down on them like a ton of bricks and would make sure that they did the stuff because it's part of the discipline you have to have as a manager.

"And they have to be respectful that if they are wanting to leave the club, they have to do the right things because ultimately if the club wanted, we could hold people to their contracts.

"It's not the right thing to do, I suppose, but I have known it happen that players have rotted in the reserves for a couple of years.

"Every player up and down the country has got a value on their head. We have got a value for all our players and if nobody reaches that value, then they will stay with us."

Paul Pogba has revealed how he persuaded his close friend Romelu Lukaku to join Manchester United from Everton this summer. The Belgian forward traded Merseyside for Manchester after a £75m fee was agreed between the two clubs, a deal which could eventually exceed the £89m fee that United paid for Pogba last summer, if all the other clauses are fulfilled.
