Napoli manager Rafael Benitez wants to make the most of Daniel Agger's current situation at Liverpool and take the Danish defender on loan in January.

Club representatives met got in touch with Liverpool to enquire about a temporary deal for Benitez's former charge who has struggled to cement his place in the Liverpool first team recently.

Agger was brought to the club by Benitez in 2006 and although he was made vice-captain this summer, he has subsequently found himself on the edge of things with Brendan Rodgers still searching for a settled central defensive partnership and Kolo Toure and Mamadou Sakho starting ahead of him.

It remains to be seen whether the Dane actually wants to leave the club and with much of the season to go there seems to be no reason why he might earn his starting place back.

Man City and Barcelona are also thought to be interested in taking the player but on a permanent deal.
