Along with the imperious form of fellow German Per Mertesacker and the boost that Lukas Podolski’s return will bring, the German contingent at the Emirates these days is certainly paying dividends.

Sunday roasts, fish n chips and light drizzle are just a few of the British delights that the Gunners' foreign imports have had to get to grips with but they seem to be more than happy with the change.
“It’s really exciting to live here and I enjoy the life,” says defender Mertesacker but he isn't so certain about the tastes our capital has to offer, describing British cuisine as rather unceremoniously "different". But, judging by his performances this year, the beef wellingtons must be going down okay.
The three are also revelling in the other sporting action London has to offer. From tennis at the O2 to NBA games held in the capital, the German stars are enjoying the host of top level sport they have to feast on.
They haven’t, however, braved a day’s cricket yet but it is "one of the targets for the next year" according to Mertesacker.
£42m man Ozil, the catalyst for so much that has been good at Arsenal this season, says he is enjoying life on and off the pitch at his new club and his German teammates may be to thank for that.
“I find the city very interesting. I've settled in really well and it’s a lot of fun. They help me and it’s good to have people I know here. They have been living here for a couple of years and they have told me a lot about London.”
