Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. It’s an extremely lively occasion and one of the most famous games in the history of the Premier League, Manchester United face an in form Liverpool side, looking to close the five point gap at the top of the table.
Liverpool will be without star man Sadio Mane, who has left to join Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations.
It’s a big game for…
Wayne Rooney. Despite missing out on his 250th Manchester United goal on Tuesday night, this could be the perfect game for him to finally break Sir Bobby Charlton’s record, he equalled the record against Reading in the FA Cup last weekend.
He should accomplish another record on Sunday, when he becomes only the 21st Premier League player to reach 450 Premier League appearances.

There have been 16 red cards handed out in this fixture, only Everton vs Liverpool have had more (21)
Remember when…
The 1996 FA Cup final saw a very cagey affair between the two rival clubs, however cometh the hour cometh the man, as Eric Cantona volleyed home a poor clearance by David James to win the final in the last 10 minutes.
Player to watch…
Adam Lallana. Since signing from Southampton, the midfielder has been a revelation for Liverpool, one of Klopp’s go to men, he has been involved in more goals this season than any other English player, scoring seven and notching seven assists.
Look for him to test United’s backline, If Coutinho joins him in midfield; it could be an interesting game of cat and mouse.

Odds…
Manchester United to win: 11/10
Liverpool to win: 23/10
Draw: 12/5
45 mins: There will be one added minute and a long walk to the dressing room before Jose Mourinho has a full on meltdown.
SECOND HALF KICK-OFF: Manchester United need something special. They have turned to someone that once was - and can be again. Wayne Rooney is on for Jose Mourinho's side, replacing the out-of-sorts Michael Carrick. Rooney needs just one goal to become Manchester United's record goalscorer of all time. Manchester United need just one goal to draw level with Liverpool.
48 mins: United have changed personnel and set-up, but it's Liverpool making the running at the start of the second half. Divock Origi sees his name in lights as he drops the shoulder and runs at Antonio Valencia, but his curling effort is headed away from the top corner by Phil Jones. It means a corner for United to defend, and they at least make a better effort of doing so than previously.
54 mins: United should be level! A fantastic pass from Ibrahimovic on the near touchline set Mkhitaryan clear on the right. Recalling his miss before half-time and with Mignolet closing him down, the Armenian decides instead to square at pace across the face of goal, but his cross is out of reach of Martial sliding into the middle. A disappointing end to a move that showcased great vision and skill.
60 mins: As Pogba blasts a long range shot into the Stretford End, Jose Mourinho calls for Juan Mata and a second Manchester United change appears imminent.
Meanwhile, Liverpool make their first with willing runner Divock Origi being replaced. His removal means a return to first team football for Philippe Coutinho. A wonderful sight for Liverpool fans and fantasy football players alike.
64 mins: Wayne Rooney receives Mkhitaryan's pass and lines up a shot outside the penalty area. "Is this the moment?" screams Martin Tyler. If you mean the moment where Manchester United waste another promising attack by rushing their decisions and choosing the wrong option, Martin, then yes. Yes, it is.
65 mins: Another switch for the home side. Mata finally makes his entrance, replacing Martial, who had been kept quiet for long periods by the teenager Trent Alexander-Arnold.
69 mins: Wayne Rooney makes his mark...on James Milner's shin. There may not have been any intent from the United striker as he stretched for a dropping ball, but it was mistimed as he caught his England colleague with his studs. The challenge has left Milner in agony on the deck, and Rooney can consider himself fortunate to escape further punishment.
