Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. It’s an extremely lively occasion and one of the most famous games in the history of the Premier League, Manchester United face an in form Liverpool side, looking to close the five point gap at the top of the table.
Liverpool will be without star man Sadio Mane, who has left to join Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations.
It’s a big game for…
Wayne Rooney. Despite missing out on his 250th Manchester United goal on Tuesday night, this could be the perfect game for him to finally break Sir Bobby Charlton’s record, he equalled the record against Reading in the FA Cup last weekend.
He should accomplish another record on Sunday, when he becomes only the 21st Premier League player to reach 450 Premier League appearances.

There have been 16 red cards handed out in this fixture, only Everton vs Liverpool have had more (21)
Remember when…
The 1996 FA Cup final saw a very cagey affair between the two rival clubs, however cometh the hour cometh the man, as Eric Cantona volleyed home a poor clearance by David James to win the final in the last 10 minutes.
Player to watch…
Adam Lallana. Since signing from Southampton, the midfielder has been a revelation for Liverpool, one of Klopp’s go to men, he has been involved in more goals this season than any other English player, scoring seven and notching seven assists.
Look for him to test United’s backline, If Coutinho joins him in midfield; it could be an interesting game of cat and mouse.

26 mins: PENALTY TO LIVERPOOL!
Inexplicable from Paul Pogba! The midfielder has struggled to keep Dejan Lovren under wraps at set-pieces, and now he has paid the ultimate price. A corner from the right was curled towards the Liverpool defender on the edge of the box, and as Pogba tried to challenge him, he turned his back on the cross, lifted his arms and handballed. Michael Oliver had no hesitation in pointing to the spot, and Liverpool have a penalty at the Stretford End.
27 mins: GOAL! MANCHESTER UNITED 0 LIVERPOOL 1:
James Milner makes no mistake! Right-footed, the left-back plants his spotkick wide of David de Gea's outstretched arm to give Liverpool the lead at Old Trafford.
31 mins: A clumsy challenge from Lovren on Martial brings the first yellow card of the match.
32 mins: Michael Oliver has his hands full at the moment. A Manchester United corner ends with Ander Herrera being fouled on the edge of the box by Divock Origi, but not before Adam Lallana had been pushed by Rojo and Jordan Henderson had been slung to the ground by the neck by Pogba. "His head's gone at the moment," suggest Gary Neville of United's record signing.
Oliver only noticed Origi's infringement and so Zlatan Ibrahimovic lines up a free-kick 20 yards from goal.
33 mins: Great save from Mignolet! The Liverpool stopper got down low to his right to push away Ibrahimovic's free-kick that powered its way through a wall that parted quicker than the hair of a 1990's full-back.
39 mins: United have been rattled by Liverpool forcing the lead, and the visitors are chasing a second. Origi nearly wrestles his way through, but fails to release the ball at the right time and then Lallana tries a curler, only to find it blocked at close range by Phil Jones.
41 mins: Another Manchester United chance! This time it's Mkhitaryan who finds himself through on goal after an error of judgement from Ragnar Klavan. The angle is against the Armenian, but he still manages to get a shot away. Mignolet is once again equal to the effort.
