Fantasy football scout tips gameweek 2: Benjamin Mendy, Christian Eriksen, Joe Hart, James Maddison and more

Benjamin Mendy

Pep Guardiola may not like everything he sees on Benjamin Mendy’s social media channels, but he was certainly impressed with the left-back’s display at the Emirates last week.

Mendy looks likely to provide much of City’s attacking threat from full-back this term and seems like an early bandwagon that is worth jumping on.

His two assists at Arsenal could easily be matched against Huddersfield Town this weekend if he and his team-mates can break down David Wagner’s well-organised defence.

Marko Arnautovic

The opening weekend was a poor one for forwards. Sergio Aguero, Harry Kane and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang all underwhelmed. Callum Wilson was the top scorer up front yet still only earned eight points.

For some, there are mitigating circumstances and Marko Arnautovic may feel as though scoring at Anfield was always going to be a tough ask.

West Ham United's opening home game of the season, with Wilson's Bournemouth the visitors, is a much more attractive prospect, especially given Bournemouth's less-than-solid defence.

Joe Hart

Back in contention after emerging from exile at Manchester City and making the short trip north to Burnley, Joe Hart kept his third clean sheet in three games against Istanbul Basaksehir on Thursday night.

Hart could face stiff competition from the injured pair of Nick Pope and Tom Heaton down the line but for now, he is assured of a starting place in goal under Sean Dyche.

Do Watford have the firepower to beat Hart? Javi Gracia's side did well to down Brighton and Hove Albion last week but a trip to east Lancashire is an entirely different proposition.

Christian Eriksen

After failing to register a goal or assist against Newcastle United, Christian Eriksen is among the most transferred-out players going into this weekend. Team-mate Dele Alli, who scored Tottenham's second, is among the most transferred-in.

Though it may be tempting to chase Alli's points, or even swap one for the other, Eriksen's productivity and rate of creation means he deserves our patience - particularly with Fulham at home this weekend.

James Maddison

Impressive on his Premier League debut at Old Trafford, Leicester City’s new recruit James Maddison showed why he could prove to be a steal at £6.5m.

Maddison offers creativity, set-pieces and shots - an ideal triumvirate for fantasy managers - and even after catching the eye against Manchester United, his ownership remains relatively low.

Leicester entertain Wolverhampton Wanderers at the King Power this weekend and though their newly-promoted opponents are fancied to do well this year, they looked more than a little defensively suspect against Everton.
