From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

It’s a big game for…

Borja Gonzalez: The Spaniard came up through Atletico Madrid’s academy, and while he has been largely impressive throughout various loan spells to smaller clubs, it’s also hardly surprising he was unable to establish himself in a squad with as much quality as Diego Simeone’s. The debutant will then be looking to impress as he makes a bid for regular first-team football, while he must also be up task of filing Andre Ayew’s boots.

Weird stat…

Players from both sides have picked up an astonishing 22 yellow and 3 red cards from their last 6 encounters.

Remember when…

Swansea battled to a deserved but ugly victory at Turf Moor, where the Welsh side normally praised for their technically-adept passing game got stuck in and were eventually rewarded with a Burnley own goal.

Player to watch…

Johann Berg Gudmundsson: He isn’t the first (or even the second) Icelander to brace the Premier League, but the winger was an important part of Iceland’s Euros squad and he has openly compared the hard-graft his national team are renowned for to that of his new club. He will also come up against his countryman Gylfi Sigurðsson, who has already established himself as a player of top quality.

Past three-meetings…

Swansea City 1 (Dyer) Burnley 0, Premier League, Aug 2014

Burnley 2 (Williams OG, Eagles Penalty) Swansea City 1 (Borini 53), League Championship, April 2011
