Former Scotland captain David Weir believes most of his countrymen want to play for Great Britain at next year's Olympic Games – and says those who do not are "foolish".
The Scottish Football Association is concerned involvement could affect the status of the nation al team. But Rangers captain Weir reckons it would be unfair to deny Scottish players a "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity".
Weir told Scotland on Sunday: "If I was asked – I wouldn't hesitate for a second. I think that's a widespread view amongst most [Scottish] players, which isn't that surprising because they'd be very foolish to say no. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."
Spain reign through Thiago's stunner
Ander Herrera and Thiago Alcantara scored the goals as Spain beat Switzerland 2-0 on Saturday to win the European Under-21 Championship.
Spain, senior level world and European champions, sealed their third continental Under-21 title thanks to a first-half header from Herrera and an audacious free-kick from Alcantara.
The Swiss defence was breached for the first time in the tournament as Didac Vila's pinpoint cross found Herrera, who put his header firmly past keeper Yann Sommer in the 41st minute.
Thiago put the result beyond doubt with a free-kick in the 81st minute which floated over Sommer's head from 40 yards out.
