At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Mikel Arteta’s side laboured to a 1-0 defeat against Man City last weekend, which somewhat halted the momentum of their brilliant start to the season. However, the Gunners still look vastly improved in comparison to the side who were knocked out in the round of 32 by Olympiacos last season.
Rather than the game itself, though, it’s the rumblings of discontent surrounding Mesut Ozil’s exclusion from tonight’s squad that has dominated the build-up to the fixture, with Arteta admitting that while his “conscience is calm”, he has “failed” Ozil by effectively drawing the curtain on the playmaker’s Arsenal career. TOTTENHAM 0-0 LASK LINZ
Tottenham announce their line-up for the 8PM kick-off match against LASK Linz:
RAPID VIENNA 0-0 ARSENAL
Half-time.
A fairly non-eventful opening 45 minutes. Both sides have shown that there are chances at either end, but a lack of end product has overshadowed the game.
RAPID VIENNA 0-0 ARSENAL
The home side now trying to assert some pressure on Arsenal, who have shown some vulnerabilities in this first half.
RAPID VIENNA 0-0 ARSENAL
Nketiah now also in the book for having the audacity to kick the ball into the home side’s net after Lacazette was judged to have been offside.
RAPID VIENNA 0-0 ARSENAL
Speaking of Partey, he’s now went into the book for a flailing arm.
RAPID VIENNA 0-0 ARSENAL
Great defensive play by Partey, stopping a Rapid Vienna counter-attack when a goal almost looked a certainty.
Partey has been exceptional thus far.
RAPID VIENNA 0-0 ARSENAL
Nice footwork by Pepe down via the left-hand channel, but his final ball was somewhat lacking, as it flies over the bar.
RAPID VIENNA 0-0 ARSENAL
A yellow card now for Arsenal, with Lacazette going in the book for a clumsy challenge.
