From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Blues have their Champions League chances firmly in their own hands after they battled to a deserved win over the Hornets at Stamford Bridge. A tepid first-half was put behind them in the second with Ruben Loftus-Cheek, David Luiz and Gonzalo Higuain all scoring to move Maurizio Sarri's side up to third above Tottenham and Arsenal in the race for the top four.
We'll have all the latest throughout the afternoon here.

46 minutes
And Brighton have introduced Anthony Knockaert at half-time, the French playmaker replacing Alireza Jahanbakhsh, who only really figured in the penalty incident during a quiet first half.
My fingers thank Chris Hughton for the change.

Lucas Torreira to the edge of the box, he dribbles, and dribbles further, still dribbling, still dribbling...
And he's dispossessed. Shoot, man!
49 minutes
Brighton win their second corner of the day, Sokratis unable to hook the ball away in time.
Anthony Knockaert will deliver, and it is a dangerous one, Bernd Leno eventually punching the ball from somewhere near his hip under considerably pressure.
Soon they have a third.

Solly March collects this one at the far post, beats his man to the byline and crosses straight out of play.
51 minutes
That's more like it from March, working Bernd Leno with a shot from 15 yards, struck well enough but in the end comfortable for the German goalkeeper.
53 minutes
Dale Stephens fells Lucas Torreira as he crashes into the back of the Uruguayan.
In a very similar position to that from which Lionel Messi scored in midweek...
55 minutes
He'll get another opportunity, though, as Sokratis is fouled on the opposite side. Slightly closer, perhaps, but wider.
Into the wall again. Two of the worst free kicks you will see.
58 minutes
Tremendous interception from Lewis Dunk, using his length legs for all their worth to strain his sinews and cut out a ball otherwise destined for a free Arsenal runner inside the Brighton box.
