From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Eden Hazard bid a glorious farewell to Chelsea by netting a brace as Maurizio Sarri's side roared past Arsenal to seal Europa League success in Azerbaijan.

Unai Emery was looking to continue his love affair with this competition and end the Gunners' 25-year wait for continental success at the end of his maiden campaign in the dugout.

But Arsenal collapsed as a tepid first half made way for a memorable second period at the sparsely-filled Baku Olympic Stadium, where Chelsea manager Sarri masterminded a 4-1 win that brought his first major trophy. Re-live the action in the blog below.

34 minutes: Chelsea 0-0 Arsenal

Good save from Petr Cech!

Lovely Chelsea link-up in the build-up, which feeds Emerson in the box. The left-back shoots powerfully but Cech manages to parry the ball away.

Better from Chelsea.

38 minutes: Chelsea 0-0 Arsenal

Emerson kicks out a little bit against Lacazette, but the referee opts not to book Emerson.

BRILLIANT SAVE FROM PETR CECH!

Giroud finds half a yard on the edge of the box from Pedro's pass, and his shot is heading for the bottom corner, but Cech gets a faint left fingertip to the ball - what a save!

43 minutes: Chelsea 0-0 Arsenal

Game has hit a bit of a lull as we approach half-time... Chelsea have come back into the contest though.

HALF-TIME: Chelsea 0-0 Arsenal

No added time and it's goalless at the break.

Arsenal probbaly just edged it, and will feel hard done by not to have a penalty when Lacazette went down under Kepa's challenge.

Chelsea came back into it though, and ex-Chelsea player Petr Cech superbly denied ex-Arsenal player Olivier Giroud.

Stalemate - who will find the breakthrough in the second half?

Kieran Jackson29 May 2019 20:47

Giroud could not believe it when Cech saved his shot.

SECOND-HALF: Chelsea 0-0 Arsenal

We're back underway - no changes at the break.

48 minutes: Chelsea 0-0 Arsenal

First chance of the second half is for Chelsea...

Giroud is found by Hazard, who is blocked off the ball by Monreal (no free-kick given) and Giroud's shot is blocked behind for a corner which is comfortably cleared.

GOAL! Chelsea 1-0 Arsenal (Giroud 49')

We have the breakthrough in Baku!

Emerson crosses the ball to the near post, and Olivier Giroud gets in front of Laurent Koscielny and heads superbly into the bottom corner.

Stunning header - Chelsea take the lead in the all-English Europa League final!

So Arsenal, what have you got in response?
