From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

It’s a big game for…
Aitor Karanka. The pressure is on for the Middlesbrough boss as his side continues to languish at the bottom of the table, with just 22 points to their name.
The Spaniard is in desperate need of a big performance against City and should his men progress, it could help inject some much-needed confidence and desire into the north-east club as their fight for survival rolls on.
Best stat…
Middlesbrough have knocked out Manchester City in four of their last five FA Cup meetings, most recently in the fourth round in 2014-15.
Player to watch…
Sergio Aguero. Since being recalled to Guardiola’s starting XI, Aguero has more than proved his worth to Catalan. He’s scored five goals in his last four games and, despite failing to find the net against Stoke, could be the man to fire City to success on Saturday, whether he starts for the side or makes an appearance off the bench.

Manchester City 0 Middlesbrough 2

3 MINS
GOAL
MIDDLESBROUGH 0 - 1 MANCHESTER CITY
Silva has scored just minutes into the fixture, following some sloppy defence from the home side. Toure lofts a ball wide to Zabaleta, who delivers the ball into the danger zone. The cross finds Sterling, who knocks it on to Silva to strike into the back of the net from close range.
This was not in the script for Karanka. However, his side started slowly and against a team of such quality, they will get punished for this.
6 MINS
Leadbitter flies into the back of Aguero, who falls to the ground. The Boro skipper pleads his innocence and escapes the collision without a card from Mike Dean.
9 MINS
City are stringing the ball around well, with Silva leading the majority of City attacks. Boro look unorganised at the back and will need to sharpen up, otherwise it will be a long day at the Riverside for the home side.
12 MINS
Sterling picks up the ball down the right and delivers the ball into the feet of De Bruyne. The Belgian is sandwiched between two Boro shirts and he is quickly dispossessed.
15 MINS
De Bruyne threads the ball through to Sane, but he looks indecisive upon whether to shoot or cross. In the end, he does neither. He delivers the ball straight off the pitch for a goal kick.
17 MINS
Yellow card: Barragan receives the first booking of the game for hacking down Sane from behind.
19 MINS
City have controlled 65% of the possession so far, with Boro spending the majority of their time just relentlessly hunting down the ball.
21 MINS
De Roon gets his first sight on goal with a volley from outside of the box. The ball goes over the top from Gibson and is cleverly knocked down by Gestede. That's more like it from Boro.
