British actor and loyal West Ham fan Danny Dyer has been left to eat his words after boldly predicting a 2-0 win for the Irons against Manchester United in their FA Cup sixth round replay, having labelled the 11-time Cup winners “finished”.

Unfortunately for Dyer and West Ham’s Wembley hopes, United triumphed 2-1 thanks to goals from Marcus Rashford and Marouane Fellaini, with the Hammers only able to conjure up a consolation in the form of a James Tomkins header.

While the match represented the final time an FA Cup tie will be staged at Upton Park before West Ham move to the Olympic Stadium in Stratford, the home side were unable to feed off the emotion of the night and instead laboured for much of the game until they went a goal behind.

For Dyer, it proved to be a head-in-hands moment, after he had appeared on the club’s official Twitter account to predict that West Ham would triumph on the night on their way to a Wembley semi-final.

"It's going to be 2-0 West Ham, because we're the greatest team on the earth at the moment,” Dyer boldly said.

"Manchester United are finished, ta-ta, Ferguson's gone: we're going to Wembley!"

Dyer could only watch as West Ham crashed out of the Cup, and rather predictably, the Eastenders star didn’t take the defeat very well.

“Man Utd. Lucky 2 Bob has been team. How exciting to scrape through against the mighty Irons,” he wrote on Twitter.
