Cristiano Ronaldo was fit and firing but his battle with Mohamed Salah was cut short after the Egyptian was forced off with a shoulder injury in the first half.

15: Ronaldo goes close.
Real Madrid turn the ball over and Ronaldo is free on the right flank. He closes in on goal and shots just over from an angle. That effort had power on it and you feel it goes in if he gets that on target. Andy Robertson needs to make sure that is the last time Ronaldo is released.
You feel these kind of outfits only work if you win. Scrap that, do they ever work?
18: Mo Salah takes a corner from the right and Virgil Van Dijk goes close after beating Kaylor Navas to the ball. The ball is high and if he can get above it, he scores.
22: One long ball forward from Andy Robertson falls to Roberto Firmino who tries to head onto Sadio Mane inside the box but Real Madrid clear.
23: So close for Liverpool!
James Milner gets down the left and cuts a pass back to Roberto Firmino. The forward turns to the penalty spot and has a shot blocked. The ball breaks to Trent Alexander-Arnold who blasts a shot from the right through a sea of bodies and into the grateful arms of Keylor Navas.
