From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

It took Dybala just seven minutes to open the scoring, curling home a low shot from the edge of the six-yard box.
He then doubled the Italian champion's advantage when he struck again, angling a first-time shot beyond Marc-André ter Stegen from outside the penalty area.
Barcelona pushed in search of an away goal but conceded again in the second-half, as Giorgio Chiellini climbed above Javier Mascherano at a corner to head home.

52 mins: Chance for Iniesta on the edge of the box! The ball sits up nicely for the captain after the Juventus defence fail to clear their lines, but the midfielder gets too much on his volley, which flies over Buffon's crossbar.
54 mins: It should be three! Cuadrado chips the ball forward to Higuain who looks to be offside, but is in fact being played on by Sergio Roberto, who has failed to step up all the way over on the other side of the pitch.
The striker is almost surprised by how much time he has because his first-touch is clumsy, allowing Barcelona's defence to scurry back into the picture. He eventually shoots, but it's straight at Ter Stegen who confidently pushes the ball clear.
GOAL! Juventus 3 Barcelona 0 (Chiellini '55)
The defender heads home and Juventus have a three goal lead!
57 mins: A poor, poor goal for Barcelona to concede. From a corner the big defender out-jumps Mascherano and heads downward, the ball staying low under Ter Stegen's dive and ending up in the bottom left corner of the goal.
58 mins: They somehow fought back against PSG, but surely Barcelona won't be able to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat for a second time?
Juventus are on cruise control.
61 mins: Barcelona are going out to score an away goal and are throwing bodies forward, but Juventus look dangerous on the counter.
The home side boot the ball down the wing and Mandzukic and Roberto give chase, but the former is booked for administering an elbow to the Spaniard's face.
That was a nasty foul and could have warranted more than just a booking.
65 mins: Juventus have dropped very deep since scoring that third goal.
As has Messi. In desperation to revive Barcelona's flat-lining attack he's taken up a role alongside Iniesta in the midfield, attempting desperately to bring Suarez and Neymar into the game.
67 mins: And that's why Messi has dropped deeper! He picks up the ball around 40 yards from goal, drops the shoulder, and slips another superb through-ball behind Juventus' back-line.
Suarez rounds his man and runs onto it ... but drags his shot wide of the far-post. Another good chance goes begging for Barcelona.
