Your support makes all the difference.The Premier League is back! The new season got underway as newly-promoted Burnley hosted the reigning champions Manchester City at Turf Moor.
From the off, the champions showed that they haven’t missed a step as Kevin De Bruyne broke into space on the right wing, whipped in a cross and found Rodri in the box. He nodded the ball down to Erling Haaland to tapped it home for the opening goal. There were four minutes on the clock at the time.
Despite a spirited response from Burnley Haaland outdid himself later in the first half after receiving the ball from Julian Alvarez. He took a blind shot at goal and smoked home a blistering finish that ricocheted off the underside of the crossbar to send the visitros into the break two goals up.
Rodri then added to Burnley’s woes who with a well taken third in the second half before a bad night for Vincent Kompany’s men was capped off with a late red card to Anass Zaroury.

51 mins: Burnley create another chance to make something happen as Luca Koleosho runs at the defence before trying to slip in Lyle Foster. The pass is too heavy though and Ederson comes out to scoop it up.

48 mins: Lyle Foster receives the ball in the middle of the pitch as Burnley look to burst forward. He’s got company in Vitinho who starts to dip inside before moving back wide just as Foster plays the pass.
Foster wanted to slip Vitinho into the inside left channel but the ball is sent too far away from the winger and Man City take over.

Manchester City get the game restarted. There’s been no further changes at the break with Kevin De Bruyne the only man to be taken off at the minute.

Erling Haaland is only the second player to score 2+ goals in a team’s opening game of a Premier League season in consecutive seasons (also two vs West Ham in 2022-23), along with Didier Drogba in 2009-10 (two vs Hull) and 2010-11 (three vs West Brom) for Chelsea.

Erling Haaland has now scored 99 goals in Europe’s top-five leagues, while he has scored at least one goal against 35 of the 40 teams he has faced with Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City in league football.

45+5 mins: Manchester City take a two-goal lead into the break. Erling Haaland has collected both goals but expert finishes although there has been some promise to Burnley’s play.
If the home side can score next they’ll build a real confidence that they can get back into the game.

45+3 mins: Dara O’Shea is put under pressure as City press up the pitch. He pokes the ball away from the byline and nutmegs the nearest attacker to the delight of the Burnley fans.
The Clarets work the ball clear.

45 mins: There’s going to be five minutes of added time to play. Most of that comes from the injury to Kevin De Bruyne.
Foden is played in over the top once more and he carries the ball into the box. Haaland is an option for him but Foden loses the ball and the offside flag is raised.
