KICK-OFF! The second half is under way as Brighton get the ball rolling again.
Brighton & Hove Albion vs Southampton
Looking to the second half, Brighton will want to play with the same intensity and the same willingness to attack. They have the upper hand on their opponents, but they will need to add at least one insurance goal if they want three points at the end of the game. Southampton have taken up some good attacking positions, but haven’t had a great deal of chances. If they can convert any chances that they do create, they may well be looking at snatching something from this game.
Brighton & Hove Albion vs Southampton
It’s half-time here in Brighton, and the home team lead 1-0 at the break. The game started electrically, with Rutter and Mitoma having chances to put Brighton ahead. Mitoma caught Sugawara in a precarious position and with only Lumley to beat, he put his shot wide! Rutter struck the post with a left-footed shot, only minutes after shooting wide with a similar style of shot. Brighton continued to press forward, and in the 29th minute, Lamptey angled a brilliant, curling cross to the back post where Mitoma was on hand to head home. That put Brighton ahead, and deservedly so. Southampton have got into good positions, but haven’t had any notable chances apart from one for Archer. He got in front of Igor at the front post, but couldn’t get a clean shot away on goal. Brighton have created 0.81 xG so far, and Southampton have made 0.61 xG, showing that there is potential for more goals in this game. The Opta live win probability has a Brighton win at 81.6%, the draw at 13.9% and a Southampton win at 4.5%.

CHANCE! Sugawara fired a low cross towards the front post of Verbruggen’s goal, and Archer was there waiting for it. He doesn’t make good contact on the ball, and the finish is untidy in the end, but it is a positive sign at the end of the half.

Southampton earn themselves a corner late on in the half, which Fernandes swings in. Armstrong met it at the front post but ended up sending his header upwards, rather than backwards.
