Ajax vs Rangers LIVE: Champions League result, final score and reaction as Ajax notch comfortable win
Ajax 4-0 Rangers: Gers lose heavily in their first Champions League match in 12 years
Ajax built a commanding early lead before overwhelming Rangers 4-0 in Champions League Group A at the Johan Cruyff Arena.
Edson Alvarez, Steven Berghuis and Mohammed Kudus scored in a one-sided first half and Steven Bergwijn added the fourth 10 minutes from time to complete the rout.
It was a dominant display from a new-look Ajax, who sold several key players over the summer, and lost head coach Erik ten Hag to Manchester United, but still proved far too strong for the Scottish side - last season’s Europa League runners-up.
Borna Barisic did have a goal disallowed for the Gers after an offside in the build-up but they were largely outclassed.
Relive all the action as Ajax beat Rangers in the Champions League:
HT Napoli 3-0 Liverpool
Today has already seen one Champions League winning German manager fired from a big six Premier League club - Thomas Tuchel for those wondering - is Jurgen Klopp’s job on the line now?
It shouldn’t be given what he’s achieved with the Reds but that first 45 minutes has been woeful.
HT Napoli 3-0 Liverpool
Liverpool have conceded the first goal in five games in all competitions this season, the joint-most of any Premier League side along with Southampton.
They haven’t lost a Champions League away game in six matches but that run looks to be coming to an end.
HT Napoli 3-0 Liverpool
Napoli are unstoppable. They’ve torn Liverpool apart and secured the points in the first half at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium.
It’s a mountain to climb for the Reds and they don’t look likely to get back into this one.
Half-time: Napoli 3-0 Liverpool
45+1 mins: Liverpool have been blown away in Naples. They trail by three at the break and it could easily have been more. Alisson has saved a penalty and Van Dijk has cleared one off the line.
Jurgen Klopp must be fuming. Liverpool have been so easy to play through. Is there a way back for the Reds?
GOAL! Napoli 3-0 Liverpool (44’, Simeone)⚽️
44 mins: Giovanni Simeone score on his Champions League debut!
Napoli work the ball over to the left wing and send it up to Khvicha Kvaratskheila. He flicks the ball past Alexander-Arnold and sprints in behind the right-back.
Joe Gomez has to come across to cover but Kvaratskheila shoves him off away and squares the ball into the six-yard box where Simeone arrives and taps it home.
That may even be his first touch of the game.
Napoli 2-0 Liverpool
43 mins: Luis Diaz looks to twist and turn against Kim as he comes into the box from the left but the defender pokes the ball behind for a corner.
Robertson’s delivery is heading for Van Dijk but Napoli win it and run the ball out of danger.
Napoli 2-0 Liverpool
40 mins: Victor Osimhen is down for Napoli and has called for the physios to come on. It doesn’t look as though he’s going to continue.
Nope. Giovanni Simeone replaces him for Napoli.
Napoli 2-0 Liverpool
37 mins: Napoli have been brilliant so far. It’s easy to see why they’re unbeaten in Serie A this season. They’re playing with more energy, more freedom and more desire than Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp’s side seem disjointed once again - as they have done all year. Something is not quite working for them.
Napoli 2-0 Liverpool
34 mins: Chance! This is arguably Liverpool’s best chance of the half as James Milner swings a cross in from the left side of the pitch. Minjae Kim flicks it on to the back post where Harvey Elliott is wide open.
He doesn’t catch his volley right and the ball comes off his knee and lands wide of the near post!
GOAL! Napoli 2-0 Liverpool (31’, Anguissa)⚽️
31 mins: It’s 2-0 now! They make this look so easy. Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa receives the ball on the edge of the box after Jome Gomez loses possession deep in his own half.
Anguissa plays a give-and-go with Piotr Zielinski and receives the ball in behind the Liverpool defence. He’s got Alisson to beat and opens up the far side of goal before confidently slotting it past the Liverpool goalkeeper.
