From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Elsewhere, Lawrence Okolie won the commonwealth belt for a second time with a fourth round knockout of Wadi Camacho, Joshua Buatsi won the British title with an impressive third round stoppage of Liam Conroy and Lewis Ritson returned from his first career defeat with a points win at super-lightweight against German Benitez.

Lawrence Okolie might not have looked too good, but it was an important win for his mentality going forward.
How strange.
Both fighters are announced and then officials realise that Courtenay's opponent hasn't got a protector on.
Busuioc quickly pops out the ring, puts one on and we are ready.
Round one:
How did Busuioc survive that one!? Courtenay lands a savage onslaught and shakes her opponent badly but somehow doesn't fall to her feet.
Courtenay can punch and how. A big right hand to the side of the head followed by a left is what did it. How long will Busuioc survive?
Round two:
More of the same as Courtenay continues to land body shot after body shot. An impressive debut thus far from the 'Baby Faced Assassin'.
Round three:
Credit to Busuioc, she is showing heart and even though there's not much coming back from her, she's surviving these rounds.
We go into the fourth and final one of the fight.
Round four:
A good debut from Courtenay there, who showed good punch power, defensive work and movement throughout.
We await the scorecards but that'll be a comfortable points win.
Shannon Courtenay wins!
A 40-36 scoring and her professional career is off to a good start. 1-0.
Shannon Courtenay
"I made mistakes but I enjoyed myself. I dealt well with the nerves, before I came out I was dancing to Bruno Mars. The support has been crazy. I can hear my step-nan over everyone else."
When asked what she wants to achieve in her career, the answer was simple.
"World champion."
Look who's in attendance at the Copper Box tonight!
