Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

White Lion: Oundle, Northamptonshire (left)

Price: £775,000

Agent: Woodford and Co

Tel: 01832 274732

They say: This truly stunning house has four bedrooms, a garden and parking and is set within a few yards of the Market Place. The accommodation is laid out over three floors and has been sympathetically modernised over the years. In addition to the main house, there is a further bedroom with a kitchenette and shower which can be kept separate from the main house or fully integrated to extend the living space.

We say: All right, so it sounds like a pub, but it is in fact a wonderful family house. The views of the local church are stunning but you might want to check how often they ring the bell if you like a lie-in on a Sunday morning.

White Cottage: Harwell, Oxfordshire (2)

Price: £545,000

Agent: Carter Jonas

Tel: 01865 511444

They say: Recently renovated, this outstanding property now combines many original features with a superb kitchen (with a four-oven Aga) and luxurious contemporary-styled bathrooms. There are four bedrooms and three bathrooms along with lots of living space.

We say: If you like the idea of a country cottage with beams and character, then this is the place for you. It has all the "olde-worlde" charm, with a few modern comforts too. The rooms are all good sizes and there is a very decent study downstairs.

Browne's Lodge: West Street, Reigate, Surrey (3)

Price: £1.75m

Agent: Jackson-Stops & Staff

Tel: 01306 887560

They say: An outstanding example of a Georgian house offering superbly proportioned accommodation over four floors. All the fine, period, features are original, and the property is beautifully presented. In addition to the delightful walled gardens, there is an intriguing sunken water-garden.

We say: Elegant proportions are the joy of Georgian houses, and this does feel very grown-up. There's even room for a grand piano in the hall! But perhaps all but the very largest families would struggle to occupy seven bedrooms.

Rosscourt Mansions: Buckingham Palace Road, London SW1 (4)

Price: £675,000

Agent: Douglas & Gordon

Tel: 020-7931 8200

They say: A spacious three-bedroom flatwell located for St James's Park and Victoria.

We say: It's all very well, having a flat with no outside space, but when your views are of Her Majesty's gardens youmay feel jealous. Still, it's quite large and well presented.

Tollington Place: Stroud Green, London N4 (5)

Price: £350,000

Agent: Winkworth

Tel: 020-8342 9999

They say: This stunning three-bedroom lower-ground-floor flat has three decked patio areas and an en-suite shower room. Part of a double-fronted house, its features also include a 27ft entrance hall. The property is located within a mile of Finsbury Park tube station which is on both the Piccadilly and Victoria lines.

We say: This area is up and coming and this attractive flat could prove a wise investment, although it's not there yet.

Uplands Lodge: Hook Heath, Woking, Surrey (6)

Price: £1m

Agent: Knight Frank

Tel: 01483 565 171

They say: Laid out as the ultimate entertaining house with the kitchen/ breakfast room at the heart and the dining and drawing rooms either side of that, this was once a bungalow and has been extended to create flexible accommodation that could have five bedrooms. Outside there is a terrace with numerous places to relax as well as lots of parking and direct access to the famous Woking Golf Club.

We say: And what about the swimming pool with "jet stream"? You might want to replace the white shag-pile carpet in the bathroom, though.
