From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

In footage uploaded to YouTube yesterday, the giant mammal was being lifted onto the truck to be taken to a landfill site when the straps on the hoist broke.
The whale washed up on Carrasco beach in Montevideo and was in a state of decay when local authorities were trying to move it.
It was nearly lowered safely onto the truck but at the last moment the hoist gave way.
The rotting corpse was partially split open, leaving some of its innards hanging out but the impact caused the body to deteriorate even further.
No one was injured in the incident but the body left a foul stench as it was transported to the landfill site to be buried.
This is not the first time a sperm whale has burst, only last year a video of another exploding sperm whale went viral. The dead creature washed up in the Faroe Islands and was undergoing an examination when its stomach burst open due a build up of gases.
