A celebrity hairdresser, whose clients include footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, has been found stabbed to death at a Swiss hotel.

The body of the victim, named in reports as Ricardo Marques Ferreira, was discovered in a room at a business hotel in Albisrieden, Zurich.

Portugal’s leading daily newspaper Correio da Manha described him as the Juventus player’s “former hairdresser”.

An image posted on Mr Ferreira’s Facebook page in September 2015 appears to show him styling the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star’s hair for a photo shoot.

The dead man was found with stab wounds by a cleaner at about 2pm on Friday, according to Correio da Manha.

Local media reports claim a number of guests had contacted the hotel’s desk to complain about noise coming from the room prior to the discovery.

A 39-year-old Brazilian man was arrested at his home on Saturday in connection with the death following a police manhunt.

The Cantonal Police of Zurich said in a statement: “The intensive investigations conducted by the cantonal police of Zurich together with the Forensic Institute Zurich and the Institute for Legal Medicine of the University of Zurich, and in cooperation with the prosecution for serious violent crime, led to the identification of the alleged perpetrator.

“The 39-year-old Brazilian was arrested by canton police investigators at his place of residence and taken to the relevant prosecutor’s office.

“The background and motive of the crime are the subject of the ongoing investigation.”

Mr Ferreira was reportedly originally from the Portuguese island of Madeira, the same place Ronaldo was born, and is believed to have lived in Switzerland for about two years.

His other clients are said to include Portuguese actresses and models.
