Cristiano Ronaldo left a £17,850 tip for staff at a Greek hotel before flying to Italy to complete his £99m transfer to Juventus.

The Portuguese footballer was staying at the five-star Costa Navarino resort near Kalamata with his partner and family after his country was knocked out of the World Cup.

He posted pictures on Twitter and Instagram of the group enjoying "lovely moments" at the hotel two days after his move from Real Madrid to the Serie A champions was announced.

Ronaldo was so impressed with the service that he wrote the cheque as a thank you and instructed hotel management to split it equally among the staff, according to the Greek Reporter website.

The 33-year-old and his family then travelled to Turin for his official unveiling on 16 July.

"I'm going to try to show that I am a top player, as usual," said Ronaldo in his press conference.

"After the experiences in Manchester and in Madrid, I'd like to mark the history of Juventus. I'm here because it's a brand new challenge for my career.

"It's a big club and usually players of my age go to Qatar or to China, with all due respect, so coming to such an important and outstanding club at this point in my career makes me very happy.

"That's why I'm very grateful to Juventus for this opportunity because I can go on with my career."
