Donald Trump is set to fire the attorneys who worked alongside Special Counsel Jack Smith on two federal investigations into the president-elect and use the Department of Justice to probe the 2020 election, according to The Washington Post.

The attorneys who may become caught up in the firings include career professionals who are usually protected from such revenge efforts.

Trump is set to put together teams of investigators to look for evidence that there was fraud in battleground states in the 2020 election, according to The Post. There’s no evidence that fraud affected the outcome of the 2020 election.

Meanwhile, Trump announced that his pick for the job of treasury secretary is hedge fund manager Scott Bessent.

Trump called Bessent “one of the World’s foremost International Investors and Geopolitical and Economic Strategists.”

In a flurry of announcements on Friday night, Trump revealed his picks to lead the Office of Management and Budget, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the FDA, the CDC, the Office of the Surgeon General, and the Department of Labor.

Trump’s campaign team celebrated his hush money trial sentencing being indefinitely postponed by Justice Juan Merchan on Friday, calling it “a decisive win” in a “Witch Hunt” case.

Trump has nominated Dr. Janette Nesheiwat to be the next surgeon general.

“During the COVID-19 pandemic, she worked on the front lines in New York City treating thousands of Americans and helped patients in the aftermath of President Donald Trump’s Historic Operation Warp Speed,” the president-elect said in a statement.

He added: “Dr. Janette provided on-the-ground medical treatment to Americans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and the Joplin tornadoes. She is also a member of Samaritan’s Purse Disaster Assistance, Relief Team, and has provided lifesaving care during crises in Morocco, Haiti, and Poland.”

Pete Hegseth’s odds of being confirmed almost halved after Matt Gaetz withdrawal

Pete Hegseth’s odds of being confirmed as secretary of defense almost halved after former attorney general nominee Matt Gaetz stepped down.

Gaetz’s departure after just eight days came amid reports that he had sex with a 17-year-old girl, an allegation he forcefully denies.

Hegseth is facing sexual misconduct allegations of his own, with a woman telling police that he raped her at a California hotel in 2017, an encounter Hegseth has said was consensual.

On the betting site Polymarket, Hegseth’s chances of being confirmed stood at 89 percent when he was announced, but fell as low as 47 percent as of Thursday afternoon. On Friday night, his chances had risen to 56 percent.

Florida sets special election date to replace Matt Gaetz

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has set a date for the special election to replace outgoing congressman Matt Gaetz after he resigned from Congress and withdrew his name from Trump’s attorney general nomination.

April 1, 2025, the state will hold its election for Congressional District 1, which Gaetz represented.

Primaries for the election, which will determine the Republican and Democrat candidates, will be held on January 28.
