The Mother

Liz Lochhead was born in 1947 in Lanarkshire and now lives in Glasgow. This poem is taken from Dreaming Frankenstein and Collected Poems (Polygon, pounds 6.95). Her other collections include True Confessions and Bagpipe Muzak; she is also a dramatist and was recently commissioned to write a screenplay by BBC Scotland and the Scottish Film Council.
