From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Michael Gove has responded to Stormzy’s endorsement of Jeremy Corbyn by referencing the stab vest he wore on-stage at Glastonbury.
Asked on Talk Radio about Stormzy’s endorsement, the Tory minister said: “I think we again know that Stormzy, when he took to the stage at Glastonbury wearing a stab vest, he made clear what his political views were then.”
It is unclear what Mr Gove meant by the statement and how he believed the artist's clothing might reflect his political leanings.
The Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster added: “He is a far, far better rapper than he is a political analyst.”
During his headline set at Glastonbury Festival in June, Stormzy wore a custom Union Jack-emblazoned stab-proof vest designed by artist Banksy.
Stormzy’s set also included his hit single “Vossi Bop”, with the rapper encouraging the crowd to chant the song’s lyrics “F*** Boris”.
Stormzy has urged his fans to vote Labour in December’s general election, explaining that it would be “criminally dangerous” for Boris Johnson to continue as PM.
He wrote: “I think Boris Johnson is a sinister man with a long record of lying and policies that have absolutely no regard for the people that our government should be committed to helping and empowering.”
