Man stabbed to death in broad daylight on Coventry street following argument
Man and woman arrested following 'shocking' incident
A man has been stabbed to death in broad daylight following an argument in a Coventry street.
The 27-year-old died in hospital after being attacked just before midnight in the Walsgrave area of the city.
Another 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder. A 53-year-old woman was also detained on suspicion of assisting an offender.
"We understand there was an argument that ended with a man being stabbed – and shockingly he passed away at hospital just a couple of hours later alongside family members," said Detective Inspector Jim Colclough, of West Midlands Police.
"Our officers responded brilliantly to this incident, securing vital evidence and witness accounts and locating two people we believe were involved.”
He added that officers were still keen to hear from anyone else who may have witnessed the incident.
His death came less than fortnight after London's Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Martin Hewitt warned that "feral” knife attacks in which victims are stabbed multiple times with vicious weapons including machetes were driving up the capital's murder rate.
"We are now routinely seeing multiple stabbings. That is one individual stabbing somebody multiple times," he said. "And increasingly seeing group offending as well. By that I don't mean there's a group and one person is stabbing, I mean there's a group of people who are all using weapons.
"Some of the CCTV footage that we see is shocking and quite frankly feral when you look at a group of individuals bearing down on another person.”
