Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

A court has heard Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp admitting that he had such a “problem” with handwriting that he had trouble filling in a team sheet, “wrote like a two year- old” and required an accountant to “run his life”. The 64-year-old was heard in a 2009 interview, played to Southwark Crown Court yesterday as part of his ongoing tax evasion trial, saying he had never written a letter in his life and that his wage slips were sent directly to his accountants. “I have a big problem, I can’t write, so I don’t keep anything,” Redknapp said. “I’m the most disorganised person in the world. I can’t work a computer, I don’t know what an email is, and I’ve never sent a text message. My accountant runs my life. I have not seen a wage slip in 10 years.” Redknapp is expected to take his place in the away dugout at Vicarage Road tonight as his Tottenham side travel to Watford for an FA Cup fourth-round tie. He will meet up with his players after leaving court. “He will meet us in the hotel and give the team talk,” assistant manager Kevin Bond said. MORE
