The email, titled “Sarah’s bachelorette party,” was shared anonymously on Reddit with the caption: “So I received an invoice from the bachelorette party.”
The itemised list of “bachelorette expenses” includes things such pizza, broken down to $11.74 (£8.94) per person, and honeydew melon, which, when divided by seven guests, comes out to just .36 cents per person.
Popcorn, lemonade, cotton candy, and cupcakes were all tallied up as well, as was decor - $5 (£3.81) plates - and gifts, which included a pool tutu and a $7.67 (£5.84) “kiss frame.”
Overall, each of the seven guests owes $23.81 (£18.14), according to the list - which was met with amusement and disbelief online.
“Did the bride send this to you? Are you in the bridal party? I’m struggling to wrap my head around how anyone could think this is reasonable,” one person responded.
Another took offence with the amount allocated to each food - “They spent $82 on pizza and $23 on booze? WTF kind of boring, miserable party was this?” they asked.
According to the woman who uploaded the picture, the reason the price of alcohol was so low was because guests had been told it was BYOB - but were still required “to pay for the alcohol she bought.”
And the picture doesn’t include the entire list either, according to the attendee, who wrote: “The list goes on too. God forbid we get away without paying each .28 for paper napkins.”
One man tried to see the invoice from the bride’s perspective - and acknowledged that hen dos and weddings can be expensive.
“This may just be me as a guy talking but I actually kind of like this,” he wrote. “How many bachelorette/bachelor parties do you go to where they just say it’s $250 per person and you’re not really sure what you paid for. This way you kind of know.”
He concluded his post: “Wedding is in a month. Bachelor and bachelorette parties can be stressful especially when it comes to money!”
Despite the practical reasons for the "insane" list, the guest wrote that she plans to “eat the f*** out of her wedding food to make up for it.”
