From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

A livestream of the hearing will be available to anyone who wants to watch online, after Antonio Tajani, president of the European Parliament, backtracked on an announcement last week that it would take place in private.
“I have personally discussed with Facebook CEO Mr Zuckerberg the possibility of webstreaming meeting with him,” Mr Tajani said on Twitter.
“I am glad to announce that he has accepted this new request. Great news for EU citizens. I thank him for the respect shown towards EP.”
The hearing follows the Cambridge Analytica scandal, in which the profiles of 87 million Facebook users were shared with the UK data firm.
Personal information was then used to profile the users for the purpose of political profiling in the US Presidential Election campaign in 2016 and the UK's EU referendum of the same year.
Mr Zuckerberg has previously appeared before Congress to face questions from US law makers about the scandal.
The UK has previously summoned Mr Zuckerberg to appear at Parliament, but the Facebook founder is yet to agree to a meeting.
"If Facebook truly recognises the 'seriousness' of these issues as it says it does, we would expect that Mark Zuckerberg would want to appear in front of the Committee and answer questions that are of concern not only to the UK Parliament, but Facebook's tens of millions of users in this country," said Damian Collins, chair of the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee, in a letter to the social network.
Former UKIP leader Nigel Farage, who is a Member of the European Parliament, said he will “confront” the Facebook founder on perceived bias on the social network.
The livestream of the hearing at the European Parliament will be hosted here at 5.15 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. BST.
