Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Enter red wine brownies.
Some things in life are just made for each other and there’s nothing quite like knocking back your favourite glass of vino with a chocolaty treat to boot. So why not take it one step further with a chocolate-wine mash up?
The great thing about these is that anyone can make them. For the more culinary challenged simply add your choice of red wine to a pre-made mix or if you want to do it from scratch follow ASDA’s mouth-watering recipe.
Simply preheat the oven to 170C/150C fan/gas 3, grease and line a rectangular baking tray before melting 200g of plain chocolate with 170g salted butter over a pan of boiling water.
Then add 250ml of wine in, followed by 250g caster sugar, 75g light brown soft sugar, 130g of plain flour, three beaten eggs, a tablespoon of vanilla extract and two tablespoons of instant coffee for extra taste; this is of course an optional extra.
Bake for 30-40 minutes in the oven, and after leaving to cool down and removing from the tray, dust the brownies with cocoa.
They’re the perfect way to satisfy your sweet tooth and enjoy your favourite tipple.
