Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

This shot was taken by Barry Thomas of Luton, Bedfordshire. "It shows a rhino at Whipsnade being distracted with food while its foot is tended to," he says.
Millennium photographs
The Independent, in conjunction with Snappy Snaps, is recruiting readers to record millennium night. If you want to take part, please write to the usual Readers' Lives address, describing your plans. Single-use cameras will be supplied to those chosen and the best pictures will be published in The Independent Magazine.
Your assignment
Each month we set readers a photographic assignment and offer them the chance to have their picture published on this page. The brief for November is "Lunch". Please send your photographs (preferably in print form, with your name and daytime telephone number on the back) to Readers' Lives, The Independent Magazine, One Canada Square, Canary Wharf, London E14 5DL. The winning entries will be showcased throughout the month. Winners will receive a Canon IXUS AF camera worth pounds 64.99. Photographs cannot be returned.
