Haiti telethon gathers huge all-star lineup

Your support makes all the difference.A stellar lineup of more than 100 performers are now joining the MTV fundraising event, Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief, January 22. Headliners include Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson, and Shakira appearing in New York City. In Los Angeles, Christina Aguilera, Dave Matthews, John Legend, Justin Timberlake, Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys, Taylor Swift, and Coldplay will perform.
In addition, London has joined the event with a super-group that includes Jay-Z and Rihanna with U2's Bono and The Edge. Another special group performance will feature Keith Urban, Kid Rock, and Sheryl Crow in LA. With more support than anticipated coming to the George Clooney/MTV effort, there will likely be additional artists.
Wyclef Jean, the New York host, will also perform. Big names in film and television are lining up to request donations from the audience and take calls during the telethon with George Clooney hosting in Los Angeles. CNN's Anderson Cooper will provide reports on location in Haiti.
Hope for Haiti Now will be the most widely distributed telethon in history, both internationally and across media platforms. Facebook and Twitter signed on as social media in support of the donation drive along with new partners such as MySpace, Fancast, AOL, MSN.com, Yahoo, Bing.com, and mobile outlets Alltel, AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, and FloTV.
Besides all major broadcast networks, most cable channels in the US, from National Geographic to Al Gore's Current TV will telecast the two-hour event, starting at 8 pm ET/PT. Internationally, Canadian networks CBC, CTV, Global Television, and MuchMusic are on board. MTV Networks International, available in 640 million homes worldwide, will be the first US-based telethon airing on MTV in China.
The Clinton Bush Haiti Fund and UN World Food Programme have joined the list of relief organizations splitting proceeds for aid to Haiti, including Oxfam America, Partners in Health, the Red Cross, UNICEF, and Wyclef Jean's Yele Haiti Foundation.
All the music will be available for $0.99 per song on iTunes beginning January 23, with all proceeds benefiting Haiti relief funds managed by "Hope for Haiti Now" charities.
