Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The world’s 32 best Fifa players have gathered in London to play for the chance to be crowned world champion at the 2019 Fifa eWorld Cup.

Alongside the trophy and bragging rights, the winner will also take home a $250,000 (£210,000) grand prize.

The tournament takes place over three days at the O2 in London, from 2-4 August, with 16 of the players on Playstation and 16 on Xbox. The best of each stream will meet in the final, for a two-legged match to decide the world champion.

Those taking part are the best of the best when it comes to Fifa, meaning any of the players has a legitimate chance of taking home the winner’s trophy.

Here's a reminder of the prize money. Biggest prize pool ever offered in the Fifa eWorld Cup.

Here's the trophy, which is being delivered by England's Lucy Bronze.

Not clear when we'll actually be getting started with the final – not yet.

This is the big wait now. My guess is that we'll be kicking off properly at 6pm, but who knows!

The final competitors have made their way into the arena.

MSDossari being interviewed, but he's a man of few words. He calls out Saudi Arabia, which is going to become probably the home of competitive Fifa if he manages to win today.

MoAuba asked how he's feeling about playing cross-console, and doing one of his matches on the Xbox. He says he hopes he can play well with "this controller... I don't know what it is", holding up the big Xbox controller in mock-confusion.

We're starting on the Xbox. (So MoAuba, the PlayStation champion, is probably at a bit of a disadvantage.)

This match – two legs, one on each console – is worth $150,000 to the two players.
