From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The latest episode of Grey’s Anatomy has had fans in floods of tears over Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek’s (Patrick Dempsey) beach wedding.

In Thursday’s instalment (22 April), still dealing with the effects of Covid and drifting in and out of consciousness, Meredith was forced to decide whether to go back to the living or stay on the beach (her “safe place” during her illness) and reunite with Derek in the afterlife.

The decision was a tough one to make as she didn’t feel ready to let go and leave her children.

In a scene that harked back to their iconic post-it note “wedding” from season five, the couple found themselves on the beach having the wedding they’d always dreamed of.

Eventually, Meredith made her decision to stay alive and woke up to her eldest daughter Zola in the hospital.

Fans were strongly moved by the episode, with one viewer tweeting: “We were not emotionally prepared to say goodbye again.”

“I LITERALLY CANT SEE ANYTIHING CAUSE MY EYES ARE FILLED WITH TEARS,” added another.

Grey’s Anatomy returns on Thursday 6 May at 9 pm ET/PT on ABC.
