Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

As 14 new contestants enter the Celebrity Big Brother house tonight, it’s time to get to know those expected a little better.

Who? Kellie Maloney, formerly known as Frank.

Where do I know that face from? Kellie became famous for managing boxer Lennox Lewis to World Heavyweight Champion in 1993. She is undergoing gender reassignment and living life as a woman having retired from boxing in October 2013. In the past two years she has undergone hormone therapy, hair removal electrolysis, voice coaching and counselling to make the transition – all in secret.

Why Celebrity Big Brother? Kellie had planned to go public with her new life in a book once fully-transitioned, but after her exposure by a journalist was met with near universal support, she decided to enter the house last minute.

What can we expect in the house? Knowing the past controversial nature of Big Brother, there will likely be some heated debates, with Kellie sure to be showing some competitive fire.

Odds of winning? She has yet to enter the house, but Kellie is already the early favourite to win at 5/2.

Hosted by Emma Willis, series seven of the hit reality show airs on Channel 5, with viewers promised “countless twists, turns and tough tasks”.

The house has been given a make-over for the new run, but celebrities will not be expecting VIP treatment but, instead, plenty of drama and tension.

Last year’s show was won by Geordie Shore’s Charlotte Crosby, who beat 5ive singer Abz Lowe to the title.
