Television: TONIGHT
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.True Stories: Football Dreams (9pm C4) At pounds 37-a-week and long days of sit-ups and boot polishing, one might be tempted to feel sorry for the callow apprentices of Chelsea Football Club. But then you remember the potential rewards - pounds 20,000-a-week pay packets not being the least of them. Malcolm Brinkworth's film follows 10 of the current crop, only three of whom are likely to be kept on. At Chelsea, which is fast becoming a team entirely made up of foreign stars, this proportion is probably getting lower by the day.
Ainsley's Barbecue Bible (8.30pm BBC2) Wouldn't it be nice to meet an understated TV chef for a change? But maybe that's a contradiction in terms. Former daytime TV habitue Ainsley Harriott is all salsa and pimento as he tries to bring some new ideas to the tired, old summer barbie. It comes thick and fast, so you might have to buy the accompanying book.
