Godzilla: King of the Monsters trailer

The trailer for the upcoming Godzilla movie has been released, giving a taste of what's to come in Michael Dougherty's sequel to the 2014 monster film.

Titled Godzilla: King of the Monsters, the film stars Vera Farmiga as Dr Emma Russell, Kyle Chandler as Mark Russell, and Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown as Madison Russell, their teenage daughter. Ken Watanabe reprises his role as Dr. Ishiro Serizawa.

The film follows the effort of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch in a battle against massive monsters, which include Godzilla as well as three other well known names in the Godzilla universe: Mothra, Rodan, and the three-headed King Ghidorah, Godzilla's sworn enemy.

In the newly unveiled trailer, a dubious voice asks, during an apparent meeting of world leaders on how to contain the giant creatures: "So you'd want to make Godzilla our pet?"

"No," Serizawa answers. "We would be his."

The rest of the apocalyptic trailer hints at a desperate fight to preserve the world from destruction as Godzilla and the other creatures face off in a struggle for dominance.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters is set to be released on 31 May, 2019.
