Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Folio Society specialises in producing beautiful, considered designs for special reissues of only the best books. Their spring catalogue features the final three stories in Patrick O'Brian's unrivalled Aubrey/Maturin sea stories, reissued in classic naval colours. £29.95 each, foliosociety.com
Eastern promise
Ever since a Yoichi whisky was named the world's best single malt five years ago (plunging 2.5 million Scotsmen into stunned silence), Japanese whisky has been supplanting traditional Scotch at the top of experts' tasting lists. This 18-year-old single malt from Yamazaki has a zesty nose, earthly palate and long, fruity finish. It was also recommended to us by a Scotsman. £139.99, whiskyshop.com
Hour glass
New York designer John Derian is a firm favourite in the East Village but you don't have to cross the Atlantic to get your hands on one of his artisan pieces. Liberty in London stocks a limited range including his eerily elegant timepiece, a decoupage rendering of one of Derian's antique prints on hand-blown glass. £245, liberty.co.uk
Back in style
Remember school? One year all the cool kids were wearing backpacks and the next year it was shoulder bags? Well, now we're all grown-ups it's still going on. And the fashion gods have ordained that backpacks are in. This big, bright carry-all (see gallery) is from Epperson Mountaineering. £164, couvertureandthegarbstore.com
Golden boot
New at Wolf & Badger – one of London's top independent boutiques, and the one with the best name – are these rather glam yet also versatile boots (see gallery) by Michael Antonio Studio. Ironically for a shop named after two of nature's most formidable carnivores (yes, badgers are formidable) they are made from 100 per cent 'vegan leather'. A great price too. £76, wolfandbadger.com
