I would prefer to be in Champions League rather than have rest - Guardiola

Tottenham Hotspur host Manchester City in a fascinating clash that could decide where the Premier League title ends up this season.

Man City, aiming to win the league for a fourth year in a row, come into the match second in the table just one point behind Arsenal. This match is their game in hand and should they triumph they will take a two-point lead into the final weekend of the season. A draw tonight would mean City need to make up a three-goal difference and match Arsenal’s result on Sunday while a defeat would leave the Gunners in control of the title race.

For Spurs, their target is the top four. Aston Villa failed to defeat Liverpool last night meaning their is still a chance that Tottenham can leapfrog them into the final qualifying spot for the Champions League. Spurs are four/five points behind Villa so must beat Man City to have any hope of finishing fourth.

Inevitability of Haaland means title finale has a very familiar feel

A formality in the strangest of settings. In the seconds after Erling Haaland scored the goal that won this match and probably the Premier League title, you could feel the tension just evaporate. And that wasn’t from the away end. It was the whole stadium, as the Tottenham Hotspur fans immediately began to sing about marching in.

That was followed by a corner of the stadium doing the Manchester City fan dance of “the Poznan” and many more than standing up because they “hated Arsenal”. Finally, there was “are you watching, Arsenal?”

Up until then, there’d be a nervous energy about the occasion. Spurs supporters had almost been anxiously going through the motions of supporting their team. There was anticipation when they broke, and jeers when Ruben Dias mis-controlled the ball out of play, but it didn’t feel full voice.

That changed in the instant of the goal. It changed again when Son Heung-Min went through on goal at 1-0. Somehow, a player who is statistically the best finisher in the Premier League failed to take the chance. Sub keeper Stefan Ortega claimed his own place in City folklore. Arsenal might quip similar about Tottenham. It was all that odd. So the Premier League has one more type of storyline to add to its archive of stories, although this different type of occasion is almost certainly going to lead to the same champions. This 2-0 win means that City have it in their hands going into the final day, and that any victory over West Ham United will be enough.

Arsenal need a miracle, although they would have said similar about this match. You could definitely say it about Son missing.

FT - Tottenham 0-2 Man City

“We know it’s not done, it’s going to be tough but if we do it we can change history,” says Rodri after that victory. He also had praise for Ortega and Haaland for impacts at either end.

FT - Tottenham 0-2 Man City

There’s the whistle and so much is sorted immediately - Aston Villa will finish fourth, Tottenham Hotspur will not.

Above them, Manchester City will start the final weekend of the season two points clear of Arsenal in the Premier League title chase.

Win at home to West Ham and they have four titles in a row.

90+10’ - Tottenham 0-2 Man City

Silva booked for a foul on Kulusevski. City replaced Haaland with Alvarez a moment ago. Walker walks over and gives Ortega a massive high-five. Well into stoppage time now and it’s all over.

90+7’ - Tottenham 0-2 Man City

City quickly looking a lot more confident and a lot more relaxed after that second goal, passing it around and not letting Spurs get anywhere near the ball.

All could have been very different had Son buried that one on one against Ortega just before the penalty.

90+3’ - Tottenham 0-2 Man City

Mikey Moore on for a debut at 16 years of age for Spurs, replacing Maddison.

Spurs fans finally start singing for their own team - they’ve been quiet all night except when chanting against Arsenal. Bit late for it now in truth.

GOAL! 90’ - Tottenham 0-2 Man City

Absolutely belted in Erling Haaland! Left foot, rocketed into the corner, Vicario goes the other way and it’s two on the night, three points, first place.

City will be top tonight and heading into the final day of the season.

Ten minutes added on but it probably doesn’t matter any more.

PENALTY - 89’ - Tottenham 0-1 Man City

Foden booked for a really poor tackle getting nowhere near the ball on Maddison.

The 90 minutes are almost up but the added time might be irrelevant - Doku skips past Porro into the area, the right-back sticks out a leg and it’s a penalty to Man City!

86’ - Tottenham 0-1 Man City

Sarr and Hojbjerg off, Lo Celso and Skipp on in a late double sub for Spurs.

More about midfield energy and a little more creativity than actual all-out attack it seems for Ange Postecoglou. His team don’t have too long to score - but Son now has a magnificent chance as Akanji is caught, the Spurs skipper suddenly races through...and his one-on-one shot is really poor! Scuffed along the ground and saved by the outstretched leg of Ortega!

What a chance - what a moment in the title race. Arsenal would have been praying for that Spurs goal for once.

82’ - Tottenham 0-1 Man City

Another sighter for Kulusevski as he races into the box, holds off the defender and gets a shot away - it’s blocked easily though and perhaps after doing well, the Swede should have pulled it back instead of taking it from a narrow angle. Foden then tries to release Haaland into space but can’t find the right angle either.

Sarr sees a shot blocked as the tempo of the game finally rises and starts to be a bit end to end but Spurs are still lacking a penalty box presence.
