This election is still a dead heat, according to most polls. In a fight with such wafer-thin margins, we need reporters on the ground talking to the people Trump and Harris are courting. Your support allows us to keep sending journalists to the story.
The Independent is trusted by 27 million Americans from across the entire political spectrum every month. Unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock you out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. But quality journalism must still be paid for.

The England team made history when the Lionesses roared into the final of the Women’s World Cup for the first time ever, after beating host nation, and old enemy, Australia 3-1 in the semi-finals.
The nail-biting game had the nation hooked and saw a heroic penalty save from goalkeeper Mary Earps, as well as a near-miss goal from forward Lauren Hemp. But, when it came down to that heartbreaking final whistle, Spain beat England 1-0.
Despite narrowly losing out, England is awash with intense pride for the Lionesses after this historic tournament, which saw the nation reach the World Cup final for the first time since 1966.
There’s no better time to show your support and celebrate the sporting prowess of the Lionesses as led by manager Sarina Wiegman, and it’s only right you do so while wearing a history-making England football shirt. After all, while the England team made it to the semi-finals in 2015 and 2019, this was the first time the Lionesses have made it to the World Cup final, despite eight more nations competing, compared with the 2019 World Cup.
The Lionesses competed in the Women’s World Cup wearing a brand new kit from Nike, and we’ve found where to shop the official shirts. With options for women, men and kids, the whole family can get behind the team and show their support – but we’d recommend being quick, because they’re selling out fast.
