If you’re sick of slumming it and fancy something a bit special for your next trip, a five-star hotel is the only way to go.

But rather than forking out five-star prices, Skyscanner has revealed the 10 destinations where a luxury hotel costs less than ever.

The booking platform’s data shows that five-star hotels in Amsterdam are 42 per cent cheaper in 2018 compared to 2017, with the average price of a night in a five-star hotel this year costing just £260.

In second place is Havana, Cuba. Here, the average price of a five-star hotel is £241, compared to £312 in 2017, a reduction of 23 per cent.

Venice is notorious for being an expensive city to visit, but the average cost of a night in a five-star hotel in 2018 is £330, a 22 per cent saving on the previous year, when visitors could expect to pay £422.

Other ways to cut costs when splashing out on luxury accommodation include travelling to a destination out of season, says Skyscanner. Switzerland in summer might not having skiing, for example, but it does have plentiful hiking opportunities, incredible scenery and a booming restaurant scene.

“The luxury of a five-star hotel might seem like a distant dream for some travellers, but according to our data, that dream could become a reality,” said Lisa Tyndall, senior growth manager at Skyscanner.

“Our current hotel deals are also showing rooms available from as little as £38 a night, when staying in Venice, proving that travellers really can enjoy luxury for less in 2019.”
